On November 11, Vancouver Christian School opened its doors and invited the community to take part in a beautiful moving Remembrance Day Ceremony to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

“Vancouver Christian School has been in the Renfrew Heights neighbourhood for the past 40 years and this is our way of supporting and connecting with our community,” writes Lead Principal Ellen Freestone in an email.

Remembrance Day has always been a very important part of the school culture and living among the memorial street signs has prompted many conversations in the classrooms, Freestone noted.

The school has just finished a complete rebuild and is located in the middle of what’s called the “War Zone” or “Diaper Hill,” where houses were built for World War II vets and their families.
